Summer Opportunities!

Okay, so it might not be quite the same as other years, but there are still things to do!

Congratulations on finishing another school year! I'm sure everyone can agree that this summer is unlike any other. Many of my students had jobs, programs, internships, classes that are no longer moving forward. As a result, I thought the most helpful thing to do this week would be to provide a list of opportunities that are still available. Sure, many are online, but there are still some great ways to learn a new skill or even volunteer virtually. In no way is this an exhaustive list but, hopefully, it can give you some ideas of how you (or your child) can still be productive and maybe even enjoy something new this summer. Online Courses: Many of the top colleges in the world are putting some of their best colleges online for free (or for a small fee if a students wants a certificate showing that they did the assignments). Students can learn anything from business to biology from one of these 2 sites: www.coursera.org www.edx.org Virtual Volunteering: Yep, it's a thing. https://www.volunteermatch.org/virtual-volunteering Research Check out this unique site to do real research for organizations that could use your help! www.zooniverse.org Global Issues: Here's a site that took their unique global education programs and brought them online https://envoys.com/ Writing Programs: https://nytedu.com/pre-college/summer-academy/online/ https://nytedu.com/courses/pre-college/august-writers-workshop/ https://camp.interlochen.org/creative-writing-summer-programs http://summer.sps.columbia.edu/courses/featured-summer-2020 https://www.umass.edu/juniperyoungwriters/ Arts: https://thejournal.com/articles/2020/04/28/updated-free-arts-resources-for-schools-during-the-covid-19-outbreak.aspx Coding: https://thejournal.com/articles/2020/04/28/updated-free-computer-science-resources-for-schools-during-the-covid-19-outbreak.aspx Science: https://thejournal.com/articles/2020/04/28/updated-free-science-resources-for-schools-during-the-covid-19-outbreak.aspx Misc Topics www.masterclass.com Hope this helps!
